Our Roots
Our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly in the actions of our initiatives. From the moment we started our work in 2008, we understood that by working together we could overcome the challenges our clients face much more efficiently, and that is why First City Homeless Services and First City Haven Shelter exists. We strive to make a positive change and meet the needs of our community members.
WHAT WE DO
Provide sustainable solutions to homelessness while meeting the immediate needs of people experiencing the housing crisis and protecting their human rights.
EMERGENCY SHELTER
Feeling like there are countless pressing issues surround homelessness and no single program could make a marked difference? The First City Haven initiative has proven to be a powerful program to successfully serve our community while providing emergency shelter for up to 50 people each day. Our shelter is open to everyone 18 and up.
CAPACITY BUILDING
Through our Capacity Building initiative, we have the potential to make real and positive change. This is one of our key areas of focus at First City Homeless Services. In order to continue meeting the needs of individuals who are homeless in Ketchikan, we must focus on capacity building. This initiative is a source of much success for our mission now and in the future.
BASIC NEEDS
We see every challenge as an opportunity, and our Basic Needs and Meal Program helps First City Homeless Services ensure that those who seek assistance are given the resources they need. We believe in providing basic needs and resources to those we serve. Basic needs include: laundry, hygiene, access to food and shelter, and resources.
